Rights Group Raises Questions Over Reports of Belarusian Deportations to Belize

A Belarusian human rights organisation is seeking more information after reports that U.S. immigration courts ordered the deportation of Belarusian citizens to Belize, although there is no confirmation that the deportations actually took place.

The human rights initiative ByAction said it is aware of two cases in which an immigration court in California issued orders for Belarusian nationals to be removed to Belize. However, the group later clarified that it has no evidence that the individuals were ultimately sent to Belize.

ByAction founder Yauhen Zhdanovich said the organisation only knows that the deportation orders were issued by a judge at the West Los Angeles Immigration Court. The identities of the individuals involved, their attorneys, and whether any appeals were filed remain unknown.

The group also raised concerns about the practical challenges of such deportations, questioning whether Belize was prepared to receive citizens from a country outside the region.

The reports come amid broader concerns over immigration enforcement in the United States. ByAction previously reported that at least seven Belarusian citizens were detained by U.S. immigration authorities in early 2026 and that several others had been deported from the United States since 2024.
