Rodwell Ferguson’s Son to Be Arrested After Police Confrontation

A minor traffic stop in Placencia has grown into a much bigger story about accountability, alleged political influence, and the limits of privilege. Police are now expected to arrest Stoney Anson Ferguson, the son of Minister Rodwell Ferguson, following allegations that he cursed at officers, resisted arrest, assaulted a policeman, and damaged police property. According to reports, Placencia police tried to pull over Ferguson’s white cargo truck on Saturday afternoon near Mariposa Resort for a traffic offence. Instead of complying, Ferguson allegedly cursed the officers and sped off before they could issue him a ticket. Police caught up with him after a brief pursuit, but the situation reportedly became more tense when Ferguson refused to cooperate, insulted the officers, and shoved one of them during a struggle. The confrontation escalated further at the police station. Shortly after officers removed his handcuffs, Ferguson allegedly grabbed a large stone and threw it at the arresting officer, narrowly missing him but smashing both the front and rear windshields of a police mobile. Officers say they tackled him as he attempted to throw a second rock. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Ferguson was reportedly released after calls were made on his behalf. That decision now appears to have been reversed. Minister Julius Espat has reportedly instructed that Ferguson be arrested.
