Scam Alert: Fake “Tax Amnesty 2.0” Page Targets Belizean Businesses

The Ministry of Investment is warning the public against a Facebook page falsely posing as a government entity offering a “Tax Amnesty 2.0” for small businesses, a programme that does not exist.

The Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU) says it has received complaints about a page called “BTS Msme Relief Hub,” which is purportedly offering tax relief to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) under the false claim of extending the government’s MSME Tax Amnesty Programme.

The IPCU says the information is false, adding, “There is no person or organization authorized to represent, promote, or implement an MSME Tax Amnesty Programme.”

The legitimate MSME Tax Amnesty Programme was launched in 2025 and ended on December 31 of that year. It allowed eligible businesses to formalise with Belize Tax Services and receive a one-year business tax exemption from the date their certificate was issued, along with a waiver of accrued penalties and interest. All applicants from the original programme were processed exclusively through the IPCU and the Belize Tax Service.

Businesses are being warned not to provide personal or business information or submit applications to anyone claiming to represent a new tax amnesty programme.

The names of the approved applicants in 2025 were posted on the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit’s official Facebook page.

Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the unit directly at belizeInvestment@invest.gov.bz and belizeinvestment@gmail.com.
