Security Guard Shot in Attempted Robbery at San Pedro Supermarket
A security guard was injured during an attempted robbery at Publics Supermarket on Coconut Drive, San Pedro Town, on Friday night.
Three men dressed in dark clothing and wearing face masks stormed into the supermarket. One of the suspects was armed with a firearm. One of the gunmen immediately approached the security guard and pointed the weapon at him while the other two demanded that a customer open a cash box.
During the ordeal, the armed assailant fired a single shot, hitting the security officer in both feet. The trio then fled the store empty-handed, escaping on foot along Coconut Drive.
A nearby police officer fired two shots in the direction of the fleeing suspects but was unable to stop them. Young was quickly rushed by Chi to the San Pedro Polyclinic and later airlifted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City. He remains in stable condition.
Crime scene investigators recovered two expended 9mm casings and one projectile from the supermarket. Surveillance footage and other evidence were collected as part of the investigation.
By the following day, police had detained two minors in connection with the attempted robbery.
