Spectator MMA Knockout by Rising Star; OW Rebels Equalizes Series
Good evening, Belize, I am Paul Lopez with this week’s installment of Sports Monday. Tonight we will feature a young MMA athlete who delivered what is arguably one of the best knockout highlights in an amateur fight recently, eighteen-year-old Dominic Beaino.
It took Beaino all but four seconds to deliver a match-ending blow to his opponent in his last fight. An SJC student, Dominic has been in the gym training, as he envisions a future in the professional MMA arena. He showed us the lightning-fast combination that brought the fight to an abrupt end. Here is our conversation with this promising young fighter. Simple, but lethal in the ring.

“Well, I like getting punched in the face, because pain is a real feeling you can’t fake. And it is something you can build on and work on. So, I enjoy it really. Drawing on his Lebanese heritage, Beaino’s outlook on pain echoes the timeless words of renowned Lebanese poet Khalil Gibran who famously wrote, “Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding”. His journey has taught him just how much pain the human body can withstand. You work hard always and try to work to your maximum capabilities you can. I train from Monday to Thursday, two times a day. I train at night, my MMA training and in the night I do gym and lift wights, so that has helped me a lot in my training and in myself getting better in the gym.”
A Lightweight fighter weighing in at a hundred and fifty-three pounds, Beaino remains undefeated, with an amateur MMA record of four wins, zero losses or draw. He fights with the Prevail Combat Club. And, we certainly wish Dominic Beaino the best in his athletic endeavors.
Now moving on to our weekly Sports Monday Score highlights. Here are some of the developments you need to be aware of. With a crucial win, the Orange Walk Running Rebels squared the best-of-five finals series. On Friday night, the Rebels faced off against the Belize City Defenders down one game. Emerging victorious with a score of sixty points to their opponents’ fifty-five, the series heads back to Belize City this weekend.
The Marconi Leal Fast Pitch Tournament continues in Sandhill and on Friday night Sandhill De-Trop faced the Guardian Bombers. And Sandhill was no match for the explosive and athletic skills the Bombers brought to the pitch. From six runs in the third inning, and three in the fourth to finish the match, Sandhill begged for mercy and got just what they asked for.
And finally, tonight, Belize’s U-17 Female Volleyball Team battled hard at this year’s Central American Championships, but a podium finish ultimately remained out of reach. They played for bronze against Costa Rica and ultimately lost after a five-set match. But that did not stop Jamielle Espejo from dominating in the individual awards for Belize, securing three of them. Best Receiver, Second Best Attacker and Top Scorer awards all went to Espejo.
Look out for more volleyball action from Belize as our female U-21 National Team is currently competing in Columbus, Ohio for the Pan American Cup. Well folks, that is all we have for you in tonight’s coverage of Sports Monday. Brought to you by the National Sports Council. Catch you in the next one.
