State of Emergency Fuels Crime Sweep in Ladyville

Police are zeroing in on Ladyville, ramping up operations as part of a wider crackdown on crime in the area. ASP Stacy Smith says this isn’t a reaction to Wednesday night’s murder; it’s part of an ongoing effort that was already underway. Ladyville was included in a state of emergency just last Friday, and since then, officers have been aggressively targeting criminal activity. According to Smith, those operations are already producing results, with multiple arrests made for serious offences as law enforcement tightens its grip on the community.

“The Ladyville area is one that is of interest. And I indicated on the last occasion, given that it is an extension of the city and pretty much has everything the city has to offer, and inevitably increasing activities would arise. You would also know that operations are happening in that area. One of the successes was the arrest of two male persons in relation to a firearm two or three weeks ago. So joint operations are in Ladyville, and they are operating and there has been a level of success, and I would also like to comment on the amount of arrests that have been made in relation to the serious offences, which speaks to the investigative posture.”
