The Latest Upgrade for Toledo Farmers

What took farmers from Trio Village, Toledo, two hours now takes them as little as ten minutes, according to Toledo East Area Representative Dr Osmond Martinez. The completion of the new Trio Bridge in southern Belize is already transforming access to agricultural producers in the village and neighbouring areas.

“In the past, the farmers used to take about two hours from the village to the farm. Now it’s only taking them about five to ten minutes to get there,” Martinez said.

The bridge was completed through the Resilient Rural Belize Programme with funding from the Green Climate Fund, alongside counterpart funding from the Government of Belize and contributions from local beneficiaries.

Martinez said the project extended beyond the bridge itself. Nearly four miles of road between the farms and the village have also been paved.

“Now we are in the process of getting the finance from CDB to do the upgrading of the road from the village to the southern highway, which will be paved as well,” Martinez added.
