This October, Go Beyond Pink: Get Screened
Pink flags went up at the Flag Monument before sunrise on Thursday as the Belize Cancer Society opened Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year’s theme is “Together We Thrive: United Against Breast Cancer.”
The Society said the month is about more than wearing pink. It is urging Belizeans to learn about breast cancer, watch for changes in their bodies and see a doctor when something seems wrong.
“Together We Thrive because no one should have to face cancer alone,” the Society said. “This month, we honor every survivor, stand with every person currently fighting breast cancer, and remember those we have lost.“
Special Envoy for Families and Children Rossana Briceño echoed the call for screening in a statement online. She said, “This month serves as a reminder to know your body, prioritise your health, encourage regular screening and seek medical advice when something feels different.”
Throughout October, the Society will run outreach activities with communities, schools and businesses. It is asking Belizeans to wear pink, share accurate information and support cancer initiatives.
