Three Officers Detained After Raccoon Street Shooting
Five people, including three police officers, have been detained following reports of gunfire on Raccoon Street Extension on Sunday night.
Police say officers responded to the area around 9:10 p.m. after receiving reports of shots being fired. Following information from the Crime Region Centre, officers intercepted a vehicle of interest and detained the five occupants.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two nine-millimetre pistols. Police also recovered about four expended shells from the scene. Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith said two of the persons in the vehicle were identified as the owners of the firearms through analysis. Investigators have not received any reports of injuries or anyone being shot. The matter is currently being treated as a case of discharging a firearm in public.
Smith said the recovered shells will be submitted for comparative analysis to determine whether they were fired from the seized weapons. The five individuals remain in custody as the investigation continues. Police say they have not provided information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
