Two Suspects in Custody in Ricky Dawson Jr’s Murder

Police have two people in custody in connection with the murder of 33-year-old Ricky Dawson Jr, confirmed ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, during this morning’s police briefing.

“They were detained this morning and will be interviewed,” Romero added.

Romero said police responded to a shooting incident in Santa Elena on Friday and found Dawson with multiple gunshot injuries. “Information is that Dawson was in the area of his house when a vehicle arrived. A person came out and fired several shots towards his direction, causing his fatal injuries,” Romero reported.

According to Romero, police believe the killing is drug-related. “We do not believe it is connected to no other incident. We believe it is drug-related,” he said, adding that Dawson was known to police.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance camera footage from the area.

Dawson was shot roughly 100 yards from his home while on the phone, when a black SUV approached and occupants opened fire. He was rushed to San Ignacio Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Family members have pushed back on any suggestion Dawson had enemies. A relative wrote, “He neva hurt anybody or create enemies. All about making your money and build a future fu your daughter. People just badmind and jealous.”
