US Midterm Elections: What’s at Stake as Americans Head to the Polls?

Americans are preparing to vote on Tuesday in midterm elections that could reshape Congress and determine how much political support President Donald Trump has for the remainder of his term.

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 Senate seats are being contested, alongside gubernatorial races in 36 states. Republicans currently hold narrow majorities in both chambers, but Democrats are seeking to regain control.

According to CBS News, more than 54 million Americans had cast an early vote ahead of Election Day, as candidates made their final appeals to voters and identified affordability, immigration and healthcare among the issues shaping the campaign.

Although Trump is not on the ballot, his administration’s policies and performance have become central campaign issues.

The outcome of the midterm election could affect his ability to advance legislation, while a Democratic majority in either chamber would give the party greater influence over congressional investigations and oversight of the administration.

The results will also offer an indication of the political mood in the United States ahead of the 2028 presidential election.
