Venezuela Death Toll Rises Over 1,400: Here Are Ways Belizeans Can Send Help

The death toll from Wednesday’s devastating earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to at least 1,430, with nearly 69,000 people reported missing and up to 6.76 million potentially affected. Belizeans who want to help can do so through two official channels shared by the Venezuelan Ambassador to Belize, Gerardo Antonio Argote.

Here’s how:

    1. Donate to the Fund for the Recovery and Reconstruction of Venezuela
CAF, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, is administering an official fund for Venezuela’s recovery. Donations can be made in US dollars or euros. Before transferring, donors must coordinate with CAF and include the reference “Fondo para la Recuperación y Reconstrucción de Venezuela” along with their name in the transfer field. Once the transfer is complete, send a copy of the bank receipt to alianzas@caf.com and trustfunds@caf.com with your name, amount, currency, transfer date, and contact details.

    2. Donate through UNICEF
UNICEF has launched an emergency appeal for Venezuela and estimates that 1.8 million people, including 680,000 children, are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. UNICEF has already deployed medical supplies and water and sanitation items and is calling for US$52 million to sustain its response.

“Three days into the response, the scale of need is becoming clearer,” said UNICEF Representative in Venezuela Manuel Rodriguez Pumarol. “Hospitals are operating beyond capacity, thousands of children don’t have reliable access to safe water, and many schools have been damaged.”

Meanwhile, more than 2,000 rescue units from 21 international organisations continue working through rubble across La Guaira and Caracas. The Trump administration has announced it is preparing another nine-figure aid package for Venezuela, on top of the US$150 million committed on Thursday after the devastating earthquakes. According to NBC News, Starlink has agreed to provide free emergency satellite internet during recovery efforts.

“People are still terrified to reenter what were their homes,” International Red Cross regional director Loyce Pace told NBC News.
