Police are investigating a high-profile murder that occurred just after 11 this morning on Sarstoon Street, Belize City.
Police reported that officers on patrol heard gunshots and responded to the area near La Popular Tortilla Factory, where a crowd had gathered.
Police reported that Tyron Meighan was inside a grey Ford Escape when “two male persons on a motorcycle approached and fired shots towards Tyron Meighan, who at the time was inside his vehicle.”
Meighan was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Meighan later succumbed to his injuries.
Meighan was no stranger to police. In 2023, he and his brother Ellis Meighan had a string of run-ins with the law, including recently beating a gang-related charge. They were also charged with aggravated assault after police accused them of attacking a man with a machete. The alleged victim later told the court he did not want to proceed, and the charges were dismissed. The altercation between the two men reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a stolen necklace.
