“Who Killed My Son”: Alwin Marin’s Mother Demands Justice

Wearing her dead son’s shirt, a grieving mother stood before cameras demanding justice after finding the body of 17-year-old Alwin Marin Jr during a search through the bushes behind the Port of Belize City.

Marin’s body was discovered nearly a week after the remains of his friend, 19-year-old Jaheil Westby, were found in the same area with gunshot wounds. The two had gone missing together, and police are now treating the case as a double murder.

Marin’s mother, Patricia Cardinez, told News Five she refused to give up hope even as days passed without answers. “I search in the bush. I see johncrows, and I search that I find my son,” she said. “I said I would not give up my hopes, I would not give up my faith… Jah guide me and protect me so that I can find my son today.”

But even in that moment, her grief was mixed with anger and questions. “I find my son now, so who killed my son? That’s the answer I want to know now… I need justice for my son,” she said.

She believes the killings are connected to a dispute over a horse and said there had been a confrontation before the boys disappeared. While she stopped short of naming suspects, she was clear in her demand for arrests.
