Who Knew Bottles Could Become Seats?
Students at Orange Walk Technical High School have completed a recycling project that turned collected plastic bottles into functional seating for use on campus.
The initiative was led by the school’s Environmental Club, with students handling the collection, design, and construction of the benches themselves.
They admitted the project was not easy, with moments of uncertainty about where to begin, but said persistence and teamwork carried them through. Two students, Oseidy and Lyra, were recognised for keeping their classmates motivated and helping to lead the effort.
The project was supported by the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future in collaboration with the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute, which works with young people across the country to turn environmental awareness into hands-on action.
