66-Year-Old Woman Held at Gunpoint Stepping Out of Her Vehicle

A 66-year-old woman was forced into her own home in Cristo Rey Village, Cayo District, at gunpoint by two armed men who ransacked her residence on Thursday morning before police arrived and apprehended one of them.

San Ignacio police received a call around 9:30 AM alerting authorities that an aggravated burglary was in progress at a residence on the outskirts of the village, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith.

Officers arrived to find two men fleeing the scene. One was caught after a pursuit. Police recovered a .22 pistol, live rounds of ammunition, and a piece of jewellery belonging to the homeowner.

The woman told police she had just stepped out of her vehicle when the two men targeted her and forced her inside. When they heard a vehicle approaching, they fled with only the jewellery.

Smith advised communities to remain alert to this pattern of burglaries and report any suspicious activities.

“It is because of the community’s recognition of strange persons within their area that a call was made and police were able to intercede,” she said.

The second suspect remains at large.
