Police Reviewing Surveillance Footage in Latest Belize City Drive-By Shooting

Doris Grant is listed in critical condition after this morning’s attack, according to the head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, ACP Hilberto Romero.

Police say businessman Austin Underwood was driving a black Nissan Titan along Youth for the Future Drive around 1:10am, with his common-law wife, 51-year-old Doris Grant, and 31-year-old Colombian national Andres Orosco also inside.

Three men approached from the riverside and fired several shots at the pickup just before crossing the bridge, ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, told reporters this morning during the police briefing.

Reports are that Grant was hit multiple times, sustaining gunshot injuries to her right upper arm, abdomen and breast. “She is listed in a critical condition at this time,” Romero added.

Police recovered approximately 30 shells at the scene, fired from a nine-millimetre pistol. No suspects have been detained, and no motive has been established.

Romero confirmed that police are reviewing video footage and following up on several leads. He added that police have mobilised to increase patrols across the city to prevent retaliation. “We have several operations ongoing at this time to prevent any form of retaliation,” he said.
