Toddler Killed in US Latest Heavy Strikes on Iran: Report

The United States has resumed heavy airstrikes on Iran after a five-night pause. The latest wave of attacks killed a couple and their two-year-old child when the attack hit a residential building on Qeshm Island, according to Iranian media.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said three of its own personnel also died in the attack.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it completed a “heavy wave” of strikes late Wednesday in response to Iranian missile attacks on US forces in Jordan a day earlier. CENTCOM said the strikes hit dozens of targets belonging to Iran’s IRGC, including missile and drone facilities, military command centres and coastal defence positions.

Jordan and Kuwait both reported Iranian retaliatory strikes on their territory afterward. Jordan said it intercepted several missiles, while Kuwaiti authorities reported one death after a strike damaged a building belonging to a Chinese company.

Despite the escalation, diplomatic channels remain open. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said talks with Omani officials over the Strait of Hormuz are continuing in Tehran.

Meanwhile, the US has also imposed new sanctions on two Iranian firms it accuses of forcing ships to pay for insurance to transit Hormuz.
