Police Officer Charged Over Alleged $25,000 Fuel Theft
A police constable has been arrested and charged in an investigation into the alleged misuse of a police fuel card through which nearly 1,800 gallons of fuel were reportedly dispensed.
The fuel card was assigned to a vehicle that had been out of commission since March. According to Smith, the fuel dispensed under the card is estimated to be worth approximately $25,000.
“Police became aware of the matter on October 20 after an attempt was made to use a fuel card to refuel a passenger bus,” said ASP Stacy Smith.
The officer, identified as Roberto Hoare, serves as a fleet manager. Smith said the investigation is ongoing and extends beyond the Police Department.
“The system that is in place is one that leaves an electronic footprint at each step of the way,” Smith said.
Those electronic records could help investigators trace the transactions and establish how the fuel card was used.
