Outside of the development controversies on Ambergris Caye, the island is preparing for the tourism high season. Mayor Wally Nunez says he believes the island is prepared. “I do believe that we are prepared. We have a lot of residence and businesses that prepare ahead of time and I know we always come together so that we can give that tourist product we always have welcoming to the island.”

“Are you optimistic that the low tourism numbers will start going back up during this high season?”

Wally Nunez

“Definitely I can see the numbers going up. I have actually asked the airlines to check their numbers, and I see that there is an increase. Hopefully it goes very well. This year has been very slow when it comes to the slow season and we recognize that. But I do believe the season will pick up. Hopefully we don’t get none of the sargassum this year.”
