Flowers Warns of Due Process Failures in Border Officers’ Case
The fallout over immigration officers posted to the Western Border is intensifying tonight. Officers placed on administrative leave after calling in sick are now challenging that decision, at least one has hired an attorney, signaling this dispute may be headed for a legal showdown. And today, Public Service Union President Dean Flowers is adding fuel to the fire, warning of serious breaches of due process and administrative procedure in how this case is being handled.

“From day one when I saw the two letters, and just for clarity it was eight officers that were placed on administrative leave who were ill for different periods within a specific timeline. On the same day they gave them their administrative leave letter, within one minute they gave them an accusatory letter, which in my humble opinion, I am no attorney, but in my opinion, it seeks to malign their character and as one attorney says it does impute certain mischaracterization of the public officer when you accuse him of sabotage. Now that letter, because the Honorable Kareem Musa says nobody name get call, well people name got called int hat letter and that letter was circulated among administrative staff and other ministries, including the public service and it is now in the media. Well this letter gone from straight administration to in the same minute and breath, I suspect you are sabotaging and I will be recommending your dismissal. Clear breach of the administrative procedure. From day one I would have said, man who does this, bearing in mind the immigration department has a fulltime legal counsel and a full time minister that is a trained attorney.”
