‘A $48 Million Boom’: Agric Had It All

Hundreds poured into the National Agriculture and Trade Show grounds in Belmopan over the weekend despite scorching temperatures. All drawn by everything from bucking bulls and horse racing to drone displays and a dog show.

The three-day event delivered its signature mix of tradition and innovation. Bull riding drew some of the biggest crowds, with one rider carried out of the arena after being stomped. Children also got their moment in the arena, with junior rodeo events giving young aspiring competitors their first taste of competition.

Minister of Agriculture Rodwell Ferguson said the sector’s $48 million growth over the past year was visible throughout the showgrounds. “These events remind us that agriculture is not just an industry, it is a way of life,” he said.

One of the most emotional moments came at the Rodeo Walk of Fame, where rodeo pioneers who have passed on were honoured in the presence of their families.
