Key Labor Issues Dominate Gov’t–Union Meeting
On Wednesday, Prime Minister John Briceño chaired the Government’s Union Consultation Team in a meeting with representatives from the National Trade Union Congress of Belize to continue dialogue on priority reforms and other issues of national importance. Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde and Ministers Kareem Musa and Henry Charles Usher joined Briceno on the Government side. Union representatives were given the opportunity to raise concerns affecting their respective memberships. Both sides engaged in constructive dialogue on practical approaches to address these matters and identify pathways toward resolution. We reached out to NTUCB President Ella Waight who says the executive will first brief the general council before making public comments on the meeting. We know the delay of Occupational Health and Safety Bill and pension reform were topics discussed at the meeting.
