Jeremy Enriquez Files Another FOIA Request
Belizean social activist Jeremy Enriquez has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to force public disclosure from the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) on the status of the long‑delayed redrawing of electoral boundaries.
The move comes with longstanding concerns about unequal voter populations across constituencies and appears to be stalling once again as another election cycle approaches. Enriquez says the prime minister has made repeated commitments that the boundary redivision would be done by the end of 2025, or no later than 2026, but that no visible progress has been made.
“We are midpoint 2026 and we have not seen any movement with public consultation, public awareness,” Enriquez said. “We have been down this road before where promises were made at the beginning of the 2020 term and we had to wait all the way before the end of that term of office when the redistricting was not done. We cannot go down that road again.”
Through his FOIA request, Enriquez is asking the EBC to provide a full account of where the process stands, including a detailed timeline, the steps being taken, the identity of any consultants engaged, what professional advice is being sought, and what reports and analyses are currently underway.
“No more of this secrecy with which this government tends to operate,” he said.
