Mayor Nunez Challenges UDP Over Missing Audit Reveal
Tonight, Zetina fires back at criticism from San Pedro Mayor Wally Nunez over a planned UDP press conference that never took place. The press conference which promised to reveal explosive findings from an audit of the council’s finances was abruptly cancelled. Mayor Nunez chided Zetina and his team two weeks ago. Today, when we spoke with Zetina he said the press conference is still coming, but they are waiting to get their municipal slate together to reveal their candidates at the same event. Here is how he puts it.
Gabriel Zetina, UDP Caretaker, Belize Rural South
“What happened is because we want to do several things simultaneously, which is one to introduce the slate. And because of time constraint with other candidates, they are still working. Some of them have some stuff they need to sort out before they make their name publicly. That is why we have paused it. It is not because we don’t have the evidence. The evidence is there. I sent you the audit they had conducted on the town council. We simply have to read and go through the document and we will see it for ourselves. This is not something we are making up.”
Paul Lopez
“When can we expect this press conference?”
Gabriel Zetina
“We can expect it very soon. Tonight we are meeting with the elders and the central executive coming in tonight. After this we will be having the press conference.”
News Five will follow the story and bring you the UDP’s San Pedro slate when it’s unveiled.
