Off-Duty Officer Targeted Near Teakettle

A drive through the Cayo District took a dangerous turn Saturday night when an off-duty police officer came under gunfire near Teakettle Village. Police say Special Patrol Unit officer Eric Usher was behind the wheel when two men reportedly emerged from the bushes and opened fire, riddling his vehicle with bullets. Fortunately, Usher escaped without serious injury, but the incident has raised fresh concerns about the country’s ongoing wave of violence. Investigators are now trying to determine who was behind the attack and what may have motivated it. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero has more.

“Eric Usher attached to SPU reported that while he was driving his vehicle in the Young Gal area of Roaring Creek, he saw two persons who came out of the bushes. Thereafter, the male persons fired shots towards his vehicle. He then drove away and realized that his vehicle had been struck. His vehicle has several bullet holes. We are currently conducting an investigation into this report.”
