Here’s The Theme For This Year’s September Celebrations

Belize’s 45th Independence celebrations now have an official theme. “Look At Me. I Am Belize at 45,” submitted by Amber Mariano, was unveiled today by the National Celebrations Commission and will serve as the banner for this year’s September festivities across the country.

Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner said the theme honours the everyday Belizeans who built the country. “Forty-five years may seem like a brief chapter in the life of a nation, but within those years are countless stories of courage, resilience, innovation, sacrifice, and hope. Stories of ordinary Belizeans doing really extraordinary things,” he said.

Meanwhile, returning to his duties after about two months, NCC Chairman Francis Fonseca used the occasion to place Belize’s story in a broader global context. He pointed to the peaceful resolution of the territorial dispute with Guatemala as proof of what the country stands for. “Here in Belize we have something truly extraordinary to celebrate. Our great existential threat is being solved not by bloodshed but by an international court system. We are choosing peace, diplomacy, and the rule of law,” Fonseca said.

Today’s theme unveiling kicks off preparations for this year’s September Celebrations that will be taking place across the country.
