A New Way to Celebrate September
As Belize heads into the September Celebrations, promoter John Marsden of Mars Productions is bringing a new event to the calendar with Bacchanal Flag Fest, a daytime celebration combining soca, music, and Caribbean culture.
The event takes place on Thursday, September 10, at Grand Resort, beginning at 3:00 p.m. and running until 11:00 p.m. Marsden said the event was created to give Belizeans a dedicated flag fete, similar to celebrations held during Carnival seasons across the Caribbean.
V’ghn Headlines the Celebration
One of the major highlights will be the Belizean debut of Grenadian soca artist V’ghn, who Marsden believes is the next major Caribbean soca talent.
Known for his versatility, V’ghn performs everything from groovy and soulful soca to high-energy power soca and Grenada’s jab soca. His 2024 release “Jab Decisions”was also highlighted during the interview as a Carnival favorite.
Marsden said he has a history of introducing Caribbean artists to Belize before they become widely known locally, and he sees similar potential in V’ghn.
A Full Lineup of DJs
V’ghn will be joined by an extensive lineup of Belizean DJs, including DJ Jago, DJ Console, DJ Clarks & Smurf, DJ Dev, Fyah Statah, and new team member DJ Junie Slaughtah.
Marsden explained that the DJs were selected not only for their individual styles but for their ability to build the energy and “set the table” for the main performances.
The event will also feature DJ Jel, another major addition to the lineup and a recognized name among soca fans.
Come Dressed to Fete—and Bring Your Flag
With Bacchanal Flag Fest centered on Caribbean culture and national pride, attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably and come ready to party. The main requirement? Bring a flag.
Marsden said the venue will be decorated with flags representing different countries, reflecting Belize’s Caribbean connections and the international nature of Carnival culture.
Tickets are $50 presold and are available through the Quick Pass app or at Mars Distributors on Vernon Street. A limited number of cocktail tables remain available by calling 622-9754, while the event’s cabanas have already sold out.
The Party Continues After 11
For those who want to keep the celebration going, an official after-party will take place at Shisha Clubfollowing the event. Marsden clarified that the after-party is a separate event.
With an early start, an 11:00 p.m. finish, international soca talent, and a full DJ lineup, Bacchanal Flag Fest is shaping up to be another option for Belizeans looking to celebrate September with music, culture, and plenty of bacchanal.
