CEOs Lead Charge in National Tree-Planting Drive

One million trees planted, that’s the objective of the Greening Belize Initiative, launched by the Ministry of Sustainable Development several weeks ago. And today government chief executive officers led by example. They joined forces with some primary school students in Roaring Creek Village to plant trees across their school compound. We heard from members of the CEO Caucus.

“We all know the importance of planting trees. I don’t think we need to persuade anybody about that. But I think what is most important is that the CEOs recognize that the children are the future of our country and if it is we intend to plant a million trees, it is not only us that can do it as a government. It is the future that would have that task.”

“This is a fantastic program. Cabinet decided that we are going to plant a million trees because we have to do something. If you will recall two or three years ago, we had this fire that damaged a lot of the pine ridge forest. So, Cabinet instructed that we have to plant back trees, more trees, it is good for us. We are an environmental country. We believe in keeping the environment green and clean. The next generation has to have something left for them.”
