Flavors of the Jewel Returns to Celebrate Belizean Creativity and Fashion
Building Belize’s Fashion Community
Belize’s creative industry will once again take center stage as Flavors of the Jewel returns with a mission to showcase local talent, craftsmanship, and innovation. Appearing on Open Your Eyes were Ronelli Requena, creator of Flavors of the Jewel, Landee Longsworth of Sol Clay Jewelry, and designer Emilio Perera, who shared details about the upcoming event.
Requena explained that Flavors of the Jewel is more than a fashion show. The platform was created to provide Belizean designers and artisans with opportunities for exposure, professional growth, and industry development, with the goal of becoming Belize’s premier fashion event.
Celebrating Local Creativity
The guests highlighted the importance of creating a supportive community for Belizean creatives. According to Perera, events like Flavors of the Jewel allow designers to connect, collaborate, and inspire one another while showcasing the diverse talent that exists across the country.
The discussion also touched on the growing appreciation for locally made products. While international brands often dominate consumer attention, the designers emphasized that Belizean creations offer something unique through craftsmanship, cultural storytelling, and direct connections between creators and customers.
Growing Beyond the Runway
A major focus of the platform is education and mentorship. Throughout the year, participating designers have access to workshops and mentorship opportunities with experienced creatives from Belize and across the Caribbean, helping them refine their collections and expand their reach beyond local markets.
This year’s mentorship program connected Belizean designers with professionals from countries including Jamaica, Aruba, and The Bahamas, creating opportunities for regional exposure and future collaborations within the Caribbean creative industry.
Fashion, Shopping, and Cultural Expression
Flavors of the Jewel will take place on June 13 at the House of Culture in Belize City. The evening will feature a VIP cocktail experience, a fashion showcase, and a shopping experience where attendees can meet designers, artisans, and entrepreneurs while purchasing locally made products.
Organizers say the event is ultimately about celebrating Belizean creativity and encouraging greater support for local talent. By bringing together fashion, art, and entrepreneurship, Flavors of the Jewel continues to play an important role in strengthening Belize’s growing creative economy.
