More Aviation Fuel Found in Neuland

Police Commissioner Dr Richard Rosado confirmed to News Five that authorities discovered 15 containers of suspected aviation fuel found in the Neuland area (Corozal) yesterday.

Rosado added that a set of lights was also found in the area. Investigators believe these items were intended to assist with a subsequent aircraft landing in the Neuland area.

As we reported earlier this month, a major anti-drug operation saw Belizean authorities working alongside international partners to intercept a narco-plane carrying over 1,000 pounds of cocaine valued at roughly $11 million.

Two Mexican nationals, Edgar Aguilar and Paul Valenzuela, identified as the pilot and co-pilot, were arrested and remain before the courts on drug importation and immigration charges.

The newly discovered fuel supplies and lighting equipment suggest that the operation may have been part of a larger, ongoing trafficking effort, potentially involving multiple flights.
