Police Officer Comes Under Gunfire
Police are investigating a report involving an officer who says he came under gunfire while driving in the Young Gal area near Teakettle Village in the Cayo District on Saturday night.
Eric Usher, who’s attached to the Special Patrol Unit, reported that two people came out of the bushes and that one opened fire on his vehicle. “He then drove away and realised that his vehicle had been struck. His vehicle has several bullet holes,” ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, told reporters.
Romero said investigators are reviewing the report carefully. “We are looking at all the facts and we will do some ballistics as well. So that will determine what becomes of the report,” he said.
At the time of the incident, Usher was off duty. He was alone in the vehicle and was carrying his licensed firearm, which police have since obtained for testing. Romero noted that the area is “dark, isolated”, and there is no surveillance footage available.
