Trump Hosts King Charles for Historic White House Visit

U.S. President Donald Trump and King Charles III held a closed-door meeting inside the Oval Office today, following a ceremonial welcome at the White House that underscored the long-standing alliance between the United States and the United Kingdom.

Photos released after the meeting show the two leaders seated alongside senior officials from both governments, including U.S. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper. Diplomats and cabinet members from both countries were also present.

The private discussions came after a high-profile arrival ceremony on the White House South Lawn, where Trump and First Lady Melania Trump greeted King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Despite rainy conditions, crowds gathered to witness the event, which featured a full military display including a 21-gun salute, marching troops, and an aerial flyover. The ceremony highlighted what Trump described as the “special relationship” between the two nations.

In remarks delivered during the welcome, Trump emphasized shared history and values, stating that Americans have “no closer friends than the British,” while referencing decades of cooperation on global security and democracy.

The Oval Office meeting marks a key moment in the King’s ongoing state visit, which is widely seen as an effort to reinforce diplomatic ties.

Later Tuesday, King Charles is scheduled to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress—becoming the first British monarch to do so since Queen Elizabeth II delivered a similar address in 1991.

The speech is expected to focus on shared democratic values, international cooperation, and the enduring partnership between the two countries.
