Foreign Minister Fonseca Recovering Well After Heart Surgery

And there’s encouraging news tonight about the health of Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca. Just over a month after undergoing heart surgery at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Fonseca is said to be recovering well and could soon begin easing back into his official duties. Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oscar Arnold, says he’s been keeping in close contact with the minister and reports that his recovery remains on track. While colleagues are looking forward to his return, Arnold makes it clear that Fonseca’s health comes first.

“I spoke to the foreign minister. We were messaging a couple of days ago. He assures me that his recuperation is going as planned – ready to come back to work. Albeit, I pushed back a bit and said maybe, you know, take some rest. But the foreign minister is ready to come back to work. He says that he will try to gradually slip into certain things. You will appreciate that the portfolio that he has are huge portfolios. Foreign affairs, foreign trade, education, culture, information technology, right? We do miss him but we want to ensure that the para- of paramount importance is his health. If he feels ready to come back, then that is something that he will discuss with Prime Minister Briceno as well. I’m sure that all his cabinet colleagues miss him. We miss him here at the ministry as well. I try to limit the information and the updates that I have to just bullet points because I know that he has the recovery to also concentrate on. But he has assured me that that is going as planned.”

We also reached out to Minister Francis Fonseca today. He told News Five that his recovery continues to go well and that he hopes to return to work in the very near future.
