Government Supports 21 Graduates Under “I Am Belize” Programme
Twenty-one young Belizeans have graduated under the Restore Belize “I Am Belize” Scholarship Programme. The graduation ceremony brought together government officials, programme administrators, families, and students, who were described as “survivors” and “co-authors of a comeback story”.
Speaking on behalf of the Office of the Prime Minister, CEO Narda Garcia said the programme reflects a broader national effort to invest in youth development and opportunity.
“We say we will not wait for you to prove you’re perfect. We will invest in you because you are resilient. And look at the return on that investment today,” Garcia said, adding that national progress depends on ensuring young people are not left behind.
Past recipients also shared reflections on the impact of the programme, describing Restore Belize as a source of mentorship and encouragement during difficult periods.
One graduate said the scholarship served as “a reminder that people believed in my potential, even during moments when I doubted myself.”
Another recipient, sponsored through the programme by Belize Electricity Limited, is currently studying at the University of Belize while working part-time as a cleaner and pursuing a long-term goal of becoming a pilot.
“Whenever I had projects or schoolwork to complete, I could always come to Restore and gather up supplies and other stuff that I needed,” he said.
He also told graduates that the institutional support they relied on during secondary school must now be matched with personal discipline and determination as they move into the next stage of their lives.
The Office of the Prime Minister confirmed continued support for the “I Am Belize” programme going forward.
