Ninety-Four Days Later, Where Is Deborah Arthurs?

For nearly three months, a Belizean family has woken up each day asking the same heartbreaking question: where is Deborah Bree Arthurs? The twenty-eight-year-old mother vanished in late March after dropping off her son at the Belize City water taxi terminal and beginning the journey home to Belmopan. She never arrived. Ninety-four days later, with few answers and no major breaks in the investigation, her loved ones continue to search for hope amid growing uncertainty. As concerns mount over the country’s increasing number of missing persons cases, police say the investigation remains active. Today, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero provided the latest update on Arthurs’ disappearance.

“Information is that searches were done at several areas. Other leads were followed up, but at this time we have insufficient evidence to charge anyone for that case.”

Amid the search for Bree Arthurs, this month, the National Forensic Science Service announced its ongoing work to identify long unclaimed human remains, using mitochondrial DNA to put names to the nameless and bring long awaited closure after years of uncertainty.
