Dr Bonilla Murder Case: Two Accused to Return for Disclosure in 3 Months
“I would have convinced my brother to drop the case or leave it alone, because nothing is worth a life. There is nothing that can replace the big void that has been left in our family.”
Those were the words of Angel Bonilla, older brother of murdered Dr Naun Bonilla, speaking outside the court after 26-year-old Hannah Rebekah Foreman and 37-year-old Edwin Albert Bethran Jr were remanded to prison without bail on murder charges.
“We don’t only want this arraignment, we want a conviction. We want them to pay for the crime that they did,” Angel told News 5.
Foreman was not a stranger to the victim. She was Dr Bonilla’s former business partner, holding an equal share in two medical operations they established together in November 2023: Insights Medical Clinic and Belmopan Medical Laboratory Services.
The partnership began to fall apart earlier this year after the company landed a National Health Insurance laboratory services contract in January 2026. According to court filings, disputes over ownership and control quickly turned ugly. Foreman alleged that Dr Bonilla forced her out by locking her out of the facility, cutting off her access to administrative systems, and placing her on suspension.
Dr Bonilla, meanwhile, accused Foreman of diverting patient payments into personal accounts, destroying official records, and attempting to transfer sole ownership of the company to herself using a forged signature. A full trial on those allegations was pending when he was murdered on May 29th, 2026.
Dr Bonilla was just 36 years old. Angel described him as a man who had spent 14 years studying abroad after high school just to come home and serve his community.
“He was killed for his own work. For the proceeds of his work. What he was so proud of,” Angel said. “It is beyond anyone’s wildest dream.”
Angel confirmed the family had known about the legal dispute with Foreman for some time, saying the situation had been “brewing, unfortunately, for a little too long”. He now regrets not urging his brother to walk away from the dispute if he had known it could end in violence.
“I feel that I failed him by not warning him. You know, like the parable says, a thief is a killer.”
Foreman and Bethran will reappear in court on September 1st for disclosure.
